dMEV Ventilation

dMEV Ventilation Systems

Continuous Extract Fans

Decentralized Mechanical Extract Ventilation is a particularly good ventilation system for either new or existing houses. The bases for all mechanical ventilation systems are to provide back ground ventilation of close to half an air change per hour 24 hours per day. That means every two hours there is a complete air change in the house stopping the buildup of moisture, VOC's and other invisible air pollutants. This may sound like a lot but the average leaky house in a sheltered position would have 1.5 air changes per hour, 24 hours per day. That is why mould and condensation issues are mainly confined to houses built after 2000 or older homes that have been retrofitted with energy efficient products. The fans also have a minimum boost rate for the different wet areas. The replacement air is brought in through the habitable rooms such as bedrooms and the sittingroom. If the house has a low air tightness value we recommend installing anti draught wall vents or humidity controlled wall vents which open and close with the level of humidity in that room.

Most of our dMEV fans are controlled by humidity and will increase their extraction rate in relation to the amount of humidity in the room. These fans are extremely energy efficient and cost around €2 to €5 per year each to run. Each fan is independent of each other so boost extraction will only happen in the room that requires it.

These fans have no filters to change and are easy to clean. This means there is not a yearly service charge. The fans are almost silent and there is no noise in the bedrooms. Our Envirovent fans have replacement motors available so when the fans fail there is no large replacement cost.

dMEV ventilation systems are an excellent solution for existing homes but also for new build houses as they have many advantages such as

  • Extremely low running costs
  • Extremely quite
  • No draughts from incoming air
  • No maintenance cost
  • Very efficient as the boost rate only increases in the room requiring the extraction
  • Reduced installation costs.
  • Very little ducting that requires cleaning.
  • Low replacement cost in relation to labour and material costs.
  • No unexpected replacement cost as you will only have to replace one fan at a time.
  • No complicated user manual, install and forget.
